Villa Hedwig

Year 1874

The Story

Historic Elegance for Your Stay

The Villa Hedwig is an elegant historic Art Nouveau villa in the heart of Badenweiler, idyllically located directly by the Kurpark. Built around 1870/1874, the house reflects the architectural and cultural spirit of the late 19th century and to this day combines historic charm with stylish, contemporary living comfort.
Originally operated as a spa establishment under the direction of the renowned physician Albert Fraenkel, the villa played an early role in Badenweiler’s development as a distinguished health resort. Its cultural significance was further enriched by the stay of writer Hermann Hesse, who lived here in 1909 during a period of personal and creative reflection. This history lends the Villa Hedwig a special atmosphere of calm, inspiration, and tradition.

Today, the villa houses charming apartments—ideal for those seeking relaxation, cultural experiences, and a Black Forest getaway.

Its quiet location by the Kurpark, close proximity to the Cassiopeia Therme and the town center, as well as numerous hiking trails through vineyards with views over the Rhine Valley, make Villa Hedwig a unique retreat where nature and history meet.
